Description

Rockwool Ablative Coated Batt is a dense stone wool slab designed to restore fire resistance at wall and floor penetrations. The core delivers non-combustible performance, while the factory-applied ablative coating forms a protective barrier that resists flames, smoke and hot gases under fire exposure. The coating also helps maintain airtightness around services.

The slab remains rigid under heat and pressure, allowing reliable cavity sealing within tested fire-stopping systems. Its semi-rigid structure ensures a tight friction fit around cables, ducts and mechanical services, helping prevent voids that reduce fire and acoustic performance. The batt cuts cleanly and provides a durable surface finish once installed.

This product supports complex service layouts and mixed mechanical–electrical routes. It also provides strong airborne sound reduction, making it suitable for separating structures that combine fire-stopping and acoustic requirements.

Installation Guide:

  • Clean openings and remove debris before installation

  • Cut batt accurately using a long-bladed knife or insulation saw

  • Insert slab under light compression to ensure full contact with all sides

  • Coat cut edges with Rockwool Ablative Coating to reinstate fire integrity

  • Seal around services with compatible ablative or intumescent products

  • Allow coating to dry fully before applying finishes or closing the void

Ablative Coated Batt vs FirePro Batts vs Firestop Slab

Rockwool Ablative Coated Batt, FirePro Batts and Firestop Slab all provide fire-stopping performance, but each serves a different purpose. Ablative Coated Batt is used for sealing service penetrations where pipes and cables pass through fire-rated walls or floors. Firestop Slab is designed for perimeter cavity barriers, especially at façade and floor junctions in medium and high-rise buildings. FirePro Batts are used when projects require tested, system-approved fire-stopping assemblies that integrate with Rockwool sealants, coatings and accessories.

Ablative Coated Batt is best for MEP* penetrations, Firestop Slab is best for cavity protection, and FirePro Batts are best for full FirePro system compliance. All three provide A1 non-combustibility, acoustic control and long-term durability.

(MEP Penetration: the process of a building's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems - like pipes, ducts, and conduits - passing through structural elements such as walls, floors, and ceilings)

Rockwool Ablative Coated Batt

Best for service penetrations where cables, pipes and ducts breach fire-rated walls or floors. The ablative coating seals under heat, giving reliable fire, smoke and acoustic protection in complex service openings. Ideal for mechanical–electrical routes, risers, mixed services and retrofit fire-sealing work.

Rockwool Firestop Slab (SP60 / SP120)

Best for perimeter fire barriers around façades, curtain walls and floor–wall junctions. Designed to close large cavities, maintain compartmentation, and resist fire movement through cladding gaps. Ideal for façade perimeters, high-rise builds, structural junctions and continuous cavity barriers.

Rockwool FirePro Batts

Best for system-integrated fire protection in tested FirePro assemblies. Used where fire-stopping needs to be combined with complementary products like mastic, compounds, collars and wraps. Ideal for certified fire-protection systems, specification-led projects and commercial buildings requiring complete fire-tested assemblies.

Which One Should a Buyer Choose?

  • Choose Ablative Coated Batt when sealing service penetrations and mixed pipe/cable openings.

  • Choose Firestop Slab when sealing façade cavities or wall–floor junctions needing 60–120 min separation.

  • Choose FirePro Batts when the build requires full FirePro system compliance or validated fire-stopping assemblies.
