Description

What does Ballast mean in Aggregates?

Ballast is a coarse aggregate mix used mainly for making concrete and ground support.

It is usually a mixture of:

  • 20mm gravel or crushed stone

  • Sharp sand

This premixed combination is sometimes called:

  • All-in Ballast

  • All-in Aggregate

  • 20mm Ballast

  • Sand & Gravel Mix

  • Rail Track Ballast is a durable, Network Rail approved granite aggregate graded 32–50mm. Screened to remove fines, it provides excellent drainage, load distribution and long-term stability for railway sleepers. With high strength and free-draining properties, it prevents vegetation growth and maintains track alignment under heavy loads. Available in loose loads or bulk bags, it is also suitable for haul roads and fines-free sub-bases in civil projects.
