• Apply the single-ply or waterproofing membrane directly over the insulation
• Seal all joints and edges to prevent thermal bridging and moisture ingress

What is the difference between Kingspan Kooltherm (K) and Thermaroof (TR) insulation boards?

The main difference between the Kingspan Kooltherm (K Series) and Thermaroof (TR Series) lies in the type of insulation core used, which affects their thermal performance and application. The K Series features a rigid phenolic foam core, offering superior thermal efficiency with a lower thermal conductivity of around 0.019 W/m·K. This allows thinner boards to deliver the same insulation performance, making it ideal where space is limited or high thermal performance is essential.

In contrast, the TR Series uses a polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam core, with a slightly higher thermal conductivity of 0.024–0.027 W/m·K. While marginally less efficient than the K Series, it provides excellent insulation for flat roof systems and is specifically engineered for compatibility with different waterproofing methods. In short, Kooltherm is the premium, space-saving choice, while Thermaroof offers robust and reliable performance for flat roof applications.
